CMQ/OE Full Mock Exam (90 Minutes) is a timed-format practice set for candidates preparing for the ASQ CMQ/OE examination. The questions follow the structure, tone and difficulty distribution of the real exam, with a deliberate mix of straightforward recall items, applied scenarios and short calculations so that your practice score is a realistic predictor rather than a flattering one.

Exam mode hides feedback until you submit, runs against the clock, and then gives you a complete question-by-question review. This is a premium quiz; access is granted per quiz or as part of the certification bundle.

Every explanation does three things: it names the underlying principle, it explains why the correct option is correct, and it explains why the most tempting distractor is wrong. That last part matters more than most candidates expect, because the ASQ exam is built around plausible distractors that reflect genuine misconceptions in practice. Learning to recognise them is the single fastest way to raise a borderline score.

The set is drawn from the Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence Body of Knowledge and each question is tagged with its BoK reference. When you finish, the review screen groups your incorrect answers so you can see immediately whether your gap is concentrated in one area or spread thinly across the syllabus. Concentrated gaps are good news: they are the quickest to close.

We recommend working through the free quizzes first to calibrate, then using the premium sets for depth. Aim to score comfortably above the pass threshold on exam-mode practice before booking your exam date, and repeat any quiz where you scored below seventy percent after leaving at least two days between attempts so you are testing recall rather than short-term memory.

If you want structured teaching alongside this practice, our full preparation course covers the same Body of Knowledge with video lessons, worked examples and downloadable templates.

4 questions from this set, shown in full with the correct answer and the reasoning behind it. Read them as a study resource.

  1. Q1.A quality manager wants to align departmental goals with organizational strategy. Which tool is most appropriate?

    • A.Control chart
    • B.Hoshin kanri (policy deployment)✓ Correct answer
    • C.Gauge R&R study
    • D.Acceptance sampling plan

    Explanation

Hoshin kanri cascades a small number of breakthrough objectives from executive strategy down to departmental and individual plans, with catchball dialogue at each level. Statistical tools operate at the process level, not the strategy level.

  2. Q2.Which leadership style is generally most effective when a team is experienced, motivated and facing a familiar task?

    • A.Directing
    • B.Coaching
    • C.Delegating✓ Correct answer
    • D.Micromanaging

    Explanation

Situational leadership matches style to follower readiness. A high-competence, high-commitment team needs delegation, not direction. Over-directing capable teams reduces engagement and slows delivery.

  3. Q3.The primary purpose of a SIPOC diagram is to:

    • A.Calculate process capability
    • B.Define process scope and boundaries at a high level✓ Correct answer
    • C.Rank causes by frequency
    • D.Estimate project cost

    Explanation

SIPOC captures Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs and Customers on one page so that everyone agrees on scope before detailed mapping begins. It is a scoping tool, not an analysis tool.

  4. Q4.A stakeholder analysis is best used to:

    • A.Assign statistical confidence to results
    • B.Identify who is affected by a change and how to engage them✓ Correct answer
    • C.Determine the sample size for an audit
    • D.Set the control limits for a KPI

    Explanation

Stakeholder analysis maps influence and interest so that communication and engagement effort is targeted. It is a core change-management input for any quality initiative.
